This was a webcast given by SAP MentorMatthias Steiner this past week.

One of the comments at the beginning of the webcast that he made was "IT is a means to serve business goals".

In a company, your end users, developers and your company have wants and needs.  End users want easy to use apps, to not worry about updating software all the time and they want them on demand.

SaaS is like Google mail; you just use it

PaaS is design and run time environment to build service and the applications that run on the platform

Developers build apps

Hybrid IT landscapes include when you keep data on premise, use cloud as outbound channel to consume

In Figure 2 you can see the ISO and security certifications; Matthias suggested visiting SAP Datacenter

The Hana Cloud Platform data centers are located in the East Coast of the US (near me) and Germany.

On this slide Matthias said you can consume BAPI’s via remote function calls in the Cloud

You can use HANA Cloud Integration with Gateway as a cloud component

If Gateway is not installed on premise use Gateway as a Service

The HANA Cloud Platform also uses a managed identity service to ensure data is secure in the cloud.

The HANA Cloud Portal is not the same as the Enterprise portal.

It is an easy tool to create new applications to expose to outside world, suppliers

It can be customized and branding

It has underlying technology to power extensions

SuccessFactors uses the extensions

Matthias said there is "No universal killer app"

It has to be specific to your enterprise, needs

He suggested starting small with something like self service or a Fiori Service

New apps in cloud include line of business, verticals, and self service

On-premise apps is where you build extensions for on-premise using the hybrid IT approach
