I have just made this simple analysis using SAP Lumira to let people know about the various causes of road accidents in India. In this blog, I have tried to analyze the causes in various states of India in the year 2010 - 11 with the help of SAP Lumira.
I got this latest data from the Ministry of Roads and Transport archive reports whichI downloaded from the below given link.
I hope this analysis will answer the below queries:
1. Which state is leading in maximum number of road accidents?
2. What is the major cause of these road accidents?
SAP Lumira helped me find answers to the above questions and I hope everyone finds them helpful in understanding the causes of accidents and make an effort to reduce them in the coming years.
1. Total number of accidents

From the above image it is clear that the major cause for road accidents is 'due to Fault of Driver'. As you can see from the image the highest number of deaths (around 13543 persons ) due to this cause is in the Tamil Nadu state. The lowest number of deaths 'due to Fault of Driver' are observed in Uttar Pradesh followed by Kerala.
2. Percentage change between 2010 - 2011
From the above image we come to know that there is not much difference in the percentage of road accidents in the year of 2010 & 2011.
3. Road accidents per 100, 000 population
From the analysis done using Lumira, we can conclude that TamilNadu is the worst state when it comes to Road Accidents. The maximum number of deaths due to 'Driver's fault' are reported in TamilNadu.
Conclusion :
The percentage of road accidents has not reduced a lot when compared with last 2 years, still it has to come down. We have to take measures to reduce the accidents by focusing on education of people about traffic rules and driving discipline. I hope this analysis using SAP Lumira will give idea to the governments and local authorities to define policies and strategies to make citizens aware about the need of following safe driving protocols to protect citizens of this countryda.
